ADA Compliance

The Public Works Agency will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities. Among other things, the Public Works Agency complies with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 ("ADA).

Where reasonable modifications are necessary to ensure access, the Public Works Agency will make such reasonable modifications without assessing any surcharge upon the person needing such modification. The ADA, however, does not require the Public Works Agency to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services or that would impose an undue financial or administrative burden.

The Public Works Agency adopted an ADA Transition Plan in 2008. Pedestrian access corridors were surveyed and modifications to sidewalks and curb ramps were identified. The Public Works Agency continues to evaluate and address barriers to access in pedestrian access corridors in connection with its street improvement projects, as the interpretation of the ADA develops, and as part of the adoption of the County’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.

The Public Works Agency adopted a grievance procedure in its Transition Plan. As described in the transition plan, grievances may be submitted via email, phone, in person, or by mail. Comments or complaints may also be directly provided to the Public Works Agency’s ADA Coordinator.
